Scripture memory and prayer

Think about adding scripture memory to your prayer life.
In thinking about our current series "Reconciled" wouldn't it be better to have your mind filled with God's truth about His glory as opposed to worldly philosophies that emphasize your personal rights.

The following quotes are from 100 Bible verses everyone should know by heart by Robert J. Morgan help show the importance of scripture memory.

"Bible verses are high powered does of truth that mainline God's wisdom into our reasoning.  They convert the soul, teach the simple, rejoice the heart, enlighten the eyes (Psalm 19:7-9).  They teach, reprove, correct, and instruct, making us profitable in every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17)."

Memorizing scripture gives us:
1.  clearer thoughts
2.  steadier nerves
3.  healthier emotions
4.  purer habits
5.  happier homes
6.  greater respect
7.  eternal optimism

As those who have been saved by grace, sinners reconciled to Holy God, we should seek to solve conflicts biblically.

Consider the truth found in Ephesians 2:11-18
11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)— 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

God,
Thank you for coming to me while I was a sinner.
Help me to remember your amazing grace as I deal with conflict in my life.
Amen

First Night

Tonight was the first night for many of Emmanuel's Soul Care groups.

Some of these first meeting will be awkward.
But remember this quote...
"We have the word of God, the Spirit of God and the community of God. Together we can develop a culture of caring that far exceeds anything the world has to offer."  Garret Higbee

Culture of Caring = Sincere in His Love

As brothers and sisters in Christ we need to be caring for one another.

Real simple prayer today...
God,
Help me to love like you love!
Amen.

More, More and Smaller for the glory of God

In relationship to yesterday's prayer request:
Be praying for MORE GROUPS, MORE LEADERS and SMALLER GROUPS.
Also, here is an excerpt from the Christian Love prayer in Valley of Vision:
Thou art the end of all means,
for if they lead me not to thee,
I go away empty.
Order all my ways by thy holy Word
and make thy commandments the joy of my heart,
that by them I may have happy converse with thee.
May I grow in thy love and manifest it to mankind.
May every that we do at Emmanuel lead us to Jesus.
Earlier in this same prayer the writer says
"By grace I am a freeman and would serve thee,
for I believe thou are art my God in Jesus,
and that through him I am redeemed,
and my sins forgiven.
Lord, we pray that we would be about GLORIFYING YOU by MAKING DISCIPLES.

over 300 people...

We now have over 300 people signed up for Soul Care groups.
Last night Pastor Duke mentioned our need for Soul Care group leaders so we can
have the number groups we need to have
while also making sure the size of these groups will help accomplish our goals for the groups.

Specifically, pray that new leaders could be identified and trained as soon as possible.

Also, pray for Pastor Duke as he begins preaching a new series "Reconciled."

Sunday, September 18, 2011

LORD, as we begin this new ministry of Soul Care groups help each of us to remember that we need to be encouraging one another and building one another up.
May we remember that these Soul Care groups are merely models to help us fulfill our mission of making disciples.

Help us to prayerfully consider how we can be more about Galatians 6:1-5.

9.11 service

Pray we would remember WHO is our hope.  Jesus Christ.
Remember this in light of Psalm 33:20-22

Pray we would be thankful for God's provision in our lives.
These include police, firemen and rescue workers.
Remember this in light of Romans 13:1-7
